Joseph
W. Fernandez has been practicing law in the State of Iowa for more
than 10 years. Licensed to practice in all Iowa district courts
and Federal district courts, Mr. Fernandez began his career as a
Law Clerk to the Honorable Donald E. O'Brien, Senior Federal District
Court Judge in the Northern District of Iowa- specifically Sioux
City. A member of the Iowa State Bar Association, the Polk County
Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Iowa
Association for Justice, the National Employment Lawyers Association
(NELA), and the local (Iowa) NELA. Mr. Fernandez began his litigation
career in central Iowa assisting in the representation of the Hon.
Thomas J. Miller, Attorney General for the State of Iowa in litigation
against the tobacco industry. For the past five years, Mr. Fernandez,
an active participant in the Blackstone Inns
of Court and affiliate of the American Inns of Court, has
been trying a range of civil litigation cases in Iowa. His practice
has been general in nature, with a concentration in the areas of
family law (dissolution, modifications, child custody and juvenile
matters), personal injury and Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Mr. Fernandez resides in West Des Moines.
He is active in his community. He is a former president of the Des
Moines Jaycees (2001), a long-time member of the Traditional and
Knights of Columbus choirs at the Sacred Heart Church in West Des
Moines. Mr. Fernandez is also an avid bicycler and a frequent
participant in RAGBRAI and the BRR ride.
